The long-controversial mayor of the Croatian capital, Zagreb, Milan Bandic, has died of a heart attack at the age of 65.
According to state HRT television, Bendick felt sick around midnight on Saturday and was rushed to the hospital, but could not recover.
Populist Bandic Croatia was one of the most prominent politicians in the country, having been involved in a series of corruption scandals for the past 21 years.
Croatian Anti-Graft conducted several investigations into Bandic's illegal activities and arrested him in 2014, but he was re-elected.
Morning for Bandic's death, some citizens lit candles outside Bandic's Zagreb home.
