Rahim Yar Khan: The problems faced by journalists can be solved only by the implementation of the laws designed for the protection of journalists. Accountability of those responsible for continuing the violence must be ensured. Organizing workshops for awareness of these laws has become the need of the hour.
These views were expressed by well-known journalist trainer Lala Hassan from a one-day workshop under the auspices of Pakistan Press Foundation while providing awareness to the female journalists participating in the workshop. He said that journalism is difficult in the current situation. It is becoming increasingly difficult to report from afar, violence against journalists is happening day by day and the situation is becoming more serious. In these situations, the laws made for the protection of journalists need to be focused.
There is a need for awareness seminars in all districts across the country to make them aware of the laws. He further said that the purpose of the laws is to monitor the attacks on the media, but the journalists who have been subjected to violence should have an easy procedure to give access to these commissions, so that the journalists who have been subjected to violence should be clear through this commission. While answering the questions of the senior journalists participating in the one-day workshop, Lala Hassan said that the laws made for the protection of journalists need to be implemented in other provinces besides Sindh.
The journalists participating in the workshop were also informed about the laws about applying to the commission. Later, President District Bar Zahid Khan Bangash, General Secretary District Bar Mohammad Afzal Chaudhry, well-known social worker Farhan Aamir, Mehmood Ul Hasan of Pakistan People's Party, Social Welfare Officer Rana Aijaz Ahmed also spoke about the protection of journalists from a seminar under the auspices of Pakistan Press Foundation. In his speeches on the implementation of the laws, he called them the need of time. On this occasion, the President of the District Bar, in response to a question of the President of the National Press Club Rahim Yar Khan, Fayyaz Mehmood Khan, also assured to provide legal assistance to the journalists.
Appreciated the role of Pakistan Press Foundation. The students of Khawaja Farid IT who participated in the workshop and seminar welcomed the organization of the workshop and emphasized on the need to organize more workshops.
