Indian capital New Delhi has been declared the world's most polluted city

New Delhi, India: The global air pollution watchdog IQ Air has revealed in its annual report that the Indian capital New Delhi has been declared the world's most polluted city for the third consecutive time in 2020.

It should be noted that air pollution is determined on the basis of the presence of fine particles in the air for a period of 2.5 micrometers or more, while for this reason they have been given the scientific name "PM 2.5".

The World Health Organization has set the maximum safe limit for PM2.5 particles in the atmosphere at 25 micrograms per cubic meter.

Despite the corona epidemic and lockdown, the average PM2.5 air pollution in New Delhi during 2020 was 84.1 micrograms per cubic meter, which is 336.4 percent higher than the World Health Organization's safe limit.

Not only that, but last year 35 of the 50 most polluted cities in the world were located in India.

2.5pm particles are considered extremely dangerous to health because they can cause serious illnesses and even death.

A recent study has found that an estimated 54,000 premature deaths due to air pollution in New Delhi over the past year have been alarming.

In the same IQ Air report, Bangladesh was ranked first, Pakistan second, and India third among the most polluted countries in the world, and South Asia's air quality was described as "the worst in the world".
