Senate elections will be held by secret ballot, Supreme Court
After concluding the arguments of all the parties in the presidential reference, the Supreme Court delivered the reserved judgment 4 days ago. Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmad delivered the opinion of the Supreme Court in the open court. According to the decision, the Senate elections will be held by secret ballot. The Supreme Court ruled by a four-to-one majority, with Justice Yahya Afridi dissenting.
The Supreme Court in its judgment said that the Election Commission can take all steps for transparent elections, all institutions are bound to cooperate with the Election Commission, the Election Commission can also use all technology to eradicate corruption.
The Chief Justice further said that the Supreme Court has ruled in its judgment that secrecy can never be absolute and the vote cannot be secret forever, it is the job of the Election Commission to determine the extent of secrecy in voting.
It should be noted that the federation, Punjab, KPK and Balochistan had supported the reference while Sindh, Election Commission, PML-N and PPP had opposed the open ballot.
